Reception Ideas for an Backyard Wedding
If you really want to make your wedding memorable for more than you and your future spouse, consider thinking outside of the box for your reception. Many couples are deciding to host their union in an outdoor setting. This can be a great way for your guests to feel comfortable and give them the time of their lives. However, there are a few things that you can do to ensure your guest really enjoy themselves.
The food that is served at a reception is very important. You need to be sure that there is enough for everyone to eat, there needs to be flavor in the food and you should have a variety of foods so everyone will have something they like. More than likely you have been to a wedding that has been catered and the food was a little less that tasty. Do you really want your guests to remember your wedding by the food not being very pleasant?
Having a backyard wedding gives you the chance to have an event that is unlike any other. You do not have to have your wedding catered. Consider making the food yourself and going for a barbecue style meal. You can always find someone ahead of time to cook on the grill for you. This is a great way for you to ensure the food is exactly what you want. You can even suggest that instead of bearing gifts for the wedding people bring their favorite cookout dishes.
However, if you plan to do this you need to have people inform you of what they intend to bring to the wedding. This way you do not have five people bringing macaroni salad and no one bringing potato salad. You can also keep track of what you will still need to buy for the wedding. By having a cookout for your wedding reception you are able to prepare foods early and freeze them before the wedding. For example, if you want to have meatballs at your wedding you can make them a few weeks before the wedding and then defrost them the day before. This will require more work on your part, but will be worth it in the long run.
When you are planning a backyard wedding you need to keep in mind the location. Especially if you are not planning on having the reception close to the house. You will need to be sure that you will have an electrical supply so you can have music, heat food up and plug in crock pots. You will probably also need to have lights to plug in just incase the wedding reception runs into the night!
